1I am a student of acupuncture and oriental medicine - almost 1/3 of the way through a masters program. There are a million variables to answering your question. I hear countless cases (including myself) of pain being relieved for long periods of time - and even cured. Being cured for years and then coming back - and after a few sessions gone again for a while...etc. I have a teacher who has been successful in 1-2 treatments, however!
Generally your first session is a very long intake - and in some cases you don't' even get treated the first visit.
So I am going to say that if something has been going on for two years - it might take some time, but maybe not...you might get some fast relief which I am sure is better than nothing..... Look for a practitioner who has attended a fully accredited school and is either a Lac or a Dom ---not just a chiropractor or an Md with some training. (Western medical doctors and chiropractors are excellent in their own field - but many only require a very short training in acupuncture theory and/or no oriental internal medicine to be able to practice needling)
If price is a factor look for a student clinic near your school -(interns) or for a practitioner that practices "community acupuncture" - and you can find reduced rates.
